Inside the book

Dot to dot printables look like play, and they are. They are also one of the quietest ways to build the skills a child needs before formal writing and math begin: number order, one-to-one counting, pencil control, and the visual skill of seeing a whole picture from a few scattered clues.

The problem with most dot-to-dot books is that they pick one difficulty and stay there. A child who can count confidently to twelve opens the book, meets twenty-five dots on page one, and closes it again.

This one starts smaller and climbs.

What’s inside

  • Level 1 — 12 puzzles, dots 1 to 10, with big simple shapes
  • Level 2 — 12 puzzles, dots 1 to 15
  • Level 3 — 12 puzzles, dots 1 to 20
  • Level 4 — 12 puzzles, the full 1 to 25
  • Super Star — 7 final puzzles, the trickiest pictures in the book

That’s 55 puzzles across 72 pages, in deliberate order. A child can start on page one and work all the way through without ever meeting a page they aren’t ready for.

A word to trace on every page

Under every finished picture there’s a word to trace in light grey, with handwriting guide lines. Rocket. Elephant. Butterfly. Hot air balloon.

So the same page that practices counting also practices letter formation, and gives you something to talk about once the coloring is done. The tracing font uses the single-storey letterforms children are taught to write, not the double-storey shapes found in most print.

Also included

  • A tracing warm-up page for the numbers 1 to 25, before the puzzles begin
  • A progress chart with 55 stars to color in, one per finished puzzle
  • A complete answer key, so nobody has to guess what the picture was meant to be
  • A certificate for the day the last puzzle is done
  • A page for grown-ups explaining which skill each level builds

What your child is practicing

  • Number order — reading 1, 2, 3 in sequence and knowing what comes next
  • One-to-one counting — touching one dot for one number, with no skipping
  • Pencil control — short, controlled strokes between two fixed points
  • Hand-eye coordination — finding the next dot before the pencil moves
  • Visual closure — seeing a whole picture from a few scattered clues, one of the last visual skills to develop before reading gets easy
  • Vocabulary — naming and tracing the word under every finished picture

Questions parents ask

What age is this for?

Ages 3 to 6. Level 1 works for a child who can count to ten; by Level 4 they’re working with the full 1 to 25. If your child is already confident to 25, they can start at Level 3 and still get 19 puzzles.

Is this a physical book?

No. This is an instant PDF download. You print it at home, which means you can print any page as many times as your child wants another go. A paperback edition is also available on Amazon if you’d prefer a bound copy.

What size paper do I need?

US Letter, 8.5 × 11 inches. It also prints on A4 with a small white border. Print at 100 percent rather than “fit to page” so the dot spacing stays correct for small hands.

Can I use this in my classroom?

Yes. You can print as many copies as you need for the children in your own classroom. Please don’t resell or share the file itself.

Is there an answer key?

Yes — five pages at the back showing all 55 completed pictures, with the name of each one.
